National Banana Bread Day

Yes, today is National Banana Bread Day. I’m not sure who decides these things, but I’m glad for this choice! My Grandma Rose was a great inspiration to me in my cooking and in my life. She was the strongest woman that I have ever known, and her Banana Bread is the very best. Here is her recipe, exactly as she made it in 1952.

Grandma Rose’s Banana Bread

Mix together in a bowl until creamy:

1/2 c. Butter
1 c. Sugar
2 Eggs
1/2 c. Buttermilk
1 tsp. Vanilla

Whisk together in a bowl:

1-1/2 c. Flour
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 tsp. Salt

Add dry ingredients + wet ingredients + ingredients below. Don’t over mix.

1 c. Chopped Walnuts (optional)
1 c. Mashed Bananas

Bake 350 degrees for 1 hour in a greased and floured bread pan.

Best served warm.
